Fury would like to congratulate our February Spotlight Athlete of the Month, Kelli Cunningham! Kelli was working to find the right life balance and decided to give Fury a try four years ago. She now is the familiar face to the 5am class and can also be seen some evenings for an extra lifting session. Kelli has been setting goals and making progress in her fitness but most recently she has started to apply what she has learned regarding nutrition to improve her overall health. Typically Saturday workouts require a partner and Kelli never seems to back down from a challenge. She admits to not being a fast runner but that doesn’t stop her from being willing to partner with just about anyone and push herself to finish each workout. Below are Kelli’s responses to our Spotlight Athlete questions.
What brought you to CrossFit?
There are many reasons that I came to Fury. The number one reason was to invest in myself. I had spent many years focusing on my children, family and demanding career, I forgot to invest in myself. I needed to become more productive by balancing my time between work, family, community activities, emotional/spiritual well-being and incorporate fitness back into my life. The second reason, I came to Fury was to embrace change. Change creates energy, excitement and learning. Be inspired by the challenges and possibilities change creates. The last reason I came to fury was to better my health. Over the years, I have suffered some very significant sports related injuries that I kind of gave up on. I began to make excuses for why I was not able to do something. That was not me. I decided that I needed to strengthen my core and muscle strength which would in turn improve my bone health.
What has impacted you the most at Fury?
The coaching staff has impacted me the most. The coaching staff has dedicated their time to giving me their undivided attention by setting aside any judgments and preconceived notions. They listened with focus and provided me with the tools that have paved the way for me to succeed. I am very thankful for the people I have met at Fury they really have made a positive impact on my life. I am very grateful for that. I have also learned quite a bit about nutrition over the last year and a half. I am thankful for the education that many of the coaches have provided.
