Congratulations to our January Spotlight Athlete of the month twelve year old Amy Casas. Amy started with our Advanced Kids class two years ago after being diagnosed as pre-diabetic. Since starting the program she has participated in our summer Student Athlete classes and now has moved into one of our Basics classes she attends with a parent. Amy is an excellent example of what can be accomplished with dedication and persistence. Coach Kelly has stated “She excels in her Olympic lifting and is great a self correcting.” Setting goals in her fitness is what drives her. Amy has come from the kid in class who did what was asked but didn’t show much emotion to the athlete in class who is noticeably pushing herself to reach these goals. Here are her responses to some questions we ask our Spotlight Athletes.
What brought you to CrossFit?
Two years ago my mom took me to the doctor and I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes. My mom was worried about my health so she took me to CrossFit Fury.
What has impacted you the most at Fury?
The first time I was at CrossFit Fury the workout was really hard for me and I couldn’t do it right. As each month went by I got better and better. When I did the same workout it was easier and not as hard as the first time.
Now I can say I am not the same person from two years ago. Throughout the time I’ve learned that each day that goes by is a challenge for me and it motivates me to not give up, that way I can reach my goals.
What other comments would you like to share with current or potential members?
I want to thank my coach Kelly for motivating me during the workouts. Never give up, if a twelve year old can do it, so can you!
