As the summer comes to an end and the 2013 Games season begins in a few months, the local Arizona affiliates are gearing up for some fun local competitions. If you are planning on competing in the 2013 CrossFit Open or just want to try your first competition this is the time to do it!

Starting in October, there are 5 local competitions already scheduled through December! CrossFit Purgatory will kick off the season with the Garage Games on Saturday October 6th in Tucson, AZ. There will be Rx, Scaled and Masters divisions with prizes for the top 3 male and females in each division. Registration is $70 before September 1st with proceeds going to children with Muscular Dystrophy.

The Furious 5:Forces Unite is the following weekend, October 13th, here at Fury in our new 15,000 square foot facility. We are changing up our 5th annual event from years past, making it a 3 event, partner competition featuring themed workouts including a firefighter’s style workout, a SWAT style workout and a good old fashioned CrossFit style workout. The event is being co-hosted by CrossFit Now and CrossFit Flagstaff. Registration is $50 per team and opens September 1st.

The next weekend, October 20th, Europa’s SICest of the Southwest fitness competition is being held at the Phoenix Convention Center. There will be four divisions at this event including RX, Masters, Team (2 male, 2 female) and Skills with a total purse of $10,000. There will be 5 different skill tests including a handstand hold, 2 minute double unders, 1000 meter row, max pull ups and max effort burpee wall jumps. You can sign up for all 5 skills or just one. Registration is open now and starts at $15 for a Skill wod and goes up to $75 RX individual and $200 for a team.

With a little break, CrossFit 480 will host their 2nd Annual “Lift It/Love It” three weeks later on Saturday, November 10th at their facility in North Scottsdale. The event being held on Veterans weekend, will honor SFC Cory Remsburg, an Army Ranger, who was injured in Afghanistan with all proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Project. “Lift it/Love It” will consist of two RX workouts, one classic benchmark CrossFit wod and one workout programmed by James “OPT” Fitzgerald. Both workouts will be all inclusive. Our very own Deana Gillespy and Will Trujillo took the top spots during last year’s competition. Registration will open September 1st.

CrossFit Flagstaff will finish off 2012 with their 3rd annual Arizona Affiliate Competition on December 15th. Peter has taken first place in the men’s competition the last two years in a row and Britney took first for the ladies in 2010. More details on this event coming soon but mark your calendars, you don’t want to miss it.
