At Fury we have the opportunity to train some of the most elite, well-rounded student athletes in Arizona.  Being around these exceptional student athletes who possess the motivation and determination to excel both academically and athletically is truly inspiring. These unique qualities contribute to shaping the future of our community and we are proud to have them be a part of Fury.

Some of our student athletes were busy last week dominating the Soccer Far West Regionals, while others are continuously conditioning, both mentally and physically, to advance their skills and increase their performance on the ice or the track and everything in between.

Our Boys’ Banat 99 Gold competed in the Far West Regionals this past week. The Preliminaries started Monday, June 18th where the Boys’ smoked the competition in first two games, winning both games 3-0.  Towards the middle of the week and the end of the Preliminaries, the competition intensified and the Boys’ tied their opponent, United FC Gold 98, 1-1.  The Boys stepped up their game and came out on top in the Quarter and Semi Finals. The Far West Regional Final took place on Sunday, June 24th where the Boys’ were facing a familiar opponent, United FC Gold 98 (the team they previously tied in the Preliminaries). Unfortunately, the Boys’ were taken by surprise with their opponent’s performance and ended up placing 2nd overall in the Far West Regionals.  The Boys’ Banat 99 Gold competed against the top ranked teams in the nation and we are proud of their accomplishment! Congratulations!

Jared Sanchez has been a consistent athlete making classes and track practice every Saturday.

Two boys that are prime examples of the ideal student athlete and represent what Fury stands for are Chase Cruz and Jared Sanchez.  Jared and Chase come to every track practice and never miss a class. They are pushed to exceed their limits, not only at the gym but at home and on the ice. These boys compete with high level players and it is essential to be on top of their game. Through CrossFit these boys have increased strength, endurance, speed, agility and stamina, which reflects out on the ice. Their hard work and dedication has caused the boys to be standout athletes as they were invited to represent Arizona at the Western Regional Ice Hockey Camp in Colorado Springs, Colorado. What an achievement- way to represent Arizona and what Fury stands for!

Another standout athlete is Chandler Waxman, currently a senior at Verrado High School. Chandler joined CrossFit Fury in February 2012 after meeting trainer Britney at an ATV racing event. After trying various training regimens, he seems to be at home with CrossFit and has seen great results both on the racetrack and in the gym. Chandler is currently racing the 2012 Worcs ATV racing series, which consists of 8 races throughout Southern California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah. A typical weekend of racing for Chandler consists of a 50 minute race on Saturday morning which is used to qualify for the main event on Sunday; a grueling 1 hour and 45 minute race against some of the fastest racers in the industry.

Chandler began his training in Fury’s Basics program. He spent several months in Basics learning the fundamentals of CrossFit. Most recently he has been training one on one with Britney, where they have focused on learning the more advanced movements of the CrossFit classes as well as tailoring training to the physical demands of the racetrack. Over the course of his training with Fury, Chandler has seen noticeable gains at the racetrack. His increased endurance, stamina, strength, agility and speed translate into better mental focus on the track and the ability to push harder during the races. Chandler’s hard work and dedication show in the gym and at the racetrack and his progress has only just begun.
