As we close the out the year and the month of December, it’s not too late to announce our Spotllight Athlete of the month as Brandi Kalafat! We are so proud to announce Brandi as our athlete this month for many reasons. First of all, Brandi has had the CrossFit determination from the get go but lacked the confidence. However in the last few months, we have seen a much more confident Brandi! She has gone from scaled workouts, to RXing most of her workouts as well as opting out of Saturday’s team workouts to endure the harder, longer solo workouts! She even signed up for her first competition-she will be joining the Bomb Squad in Tuscon to compete at CrossFit Now’s Remember Tucson Fundraiser!

Brandi is not only a great CrossFitter, but she is one of Fury’s biggest supporters! She has traveled to Colorado and California to root us on and share in our victories. We are so happy to for Brandi and all her accomplishments and only see great things in her future-like her first muscle up! Check out Brandi’s evolution from Basics to CrossFit.

When Did you start CrossFit: May 2010

Why Did you start CrossFit: I had several friends that had been trying it and the more I heard about it, the more intrigued I became. I competed in sports when I was younger and wanted to find an outlet for my competitive spirit. My friend Brianne kinda challenged me to give it a try and she continues to challenge me to get better and better.

What kept you coming back/motivated: I quickly became addicted to the feeling of overcoming something difficult. Every WOD that I conquered left me waiting for the next one. The trainers were great and I made a lot of friends within the CrossFit Fury family.

How long did it take you to go from Basics to CrossFit: 7 months

What is the best thing you have gotten out of doing CrossFit: Improved health and overall well-being. I feel better every day (unless you consider how sore my muscles still are!). My lifestyle has totally changed. I spend my spare time hiking and running and doing things that I wouldn’t have done 3 years ago.

What is one goal you have reached? And one goal you still hope to reach? I still want to conquer Strict HSPU’s and Muscle Ups.

How has your diet changed since starting CrossFit? It has changed drastically. I started Paleo about 3 months after starting CrossFit and 18 months later I literally no longer miss eating the crap I used to eat.

How has the paleo diet affected your workouts/life? I feel stronger and have more energy. I can quickly tell when I haven’t been as strict with my eating habits and I can’t wait to get back on track.
