As we thought about who deserved to be our Athlete of the Month, we were thinking we wanted someone who emboddied the spirit of CrossFit but didn’t necessarily live and breathe CrossFit like some of us. Someone who was serious about CrossFit, who worked hard every time in the gym but did it without any fanfare or attention. That is Juan Medrano! Juan is one of our most dedicated CrossFitters coming to class everyday at 6am and if he can’t make it he sneaks into another class. He is a regular at track practice and Saturday wods. He comes in everyday and puts his best effort in and is hitting great strides in his lifting and running. For a big guy, Juan can move!!! We are lucky to have Juan as a member of our gym and we can’t wait to see him get that ever elusivce muscle up! Keep trying Juan, it’s your to be had!!! Here is Juan’s journey through CrossFit so far:

When Did you start CrossFit: I started Crossfit in late September of 2009.

Why did you start CrossFit: I started because my wife had initially started going. She really talked up how intense and fun that the Crossfit environment is.

What kept you coming back/motivated: The supportive environment kept me coming back. Everyone in the gym speaks nothing but encouragement to one another and this gives the boost of energy needed to push through the tough workouts. I’ve enjoyed the camaraderie and rush of pushing ourselves. It feels like an athletic team which I have always loved.

How long did it take you to go from On Ramp to CrossFit: It took me 6 weeks to go from On Ramp to CrossFit.

What is the best thing you have gotten out of CrossFit: I have never felt stronger or had better endurance. I enjoy being in an environment of people who push their limits daily.

What is the one thing you have done here that you never thought you could do? I have recently started getting rope climbs which looked impossible when I started.

What is one thing you are currently working on and hope to get in 2011? The elusive muscle up. I will get three in a row.

Additional Comments: I am grateful that I was led to CrossFit. This has given me great balance, and I love starting each day with it.
