“I needed a place to teach me how to properly exercise and found that at Fury.”

This month Fury is proud to announce eleven year old Jimena Vasquez as the Spotlight Athlete of the Month. Jimena joined Fury in March as one of our CrossFit Advanced Kids. In this short amount of time Jimena has improved her self confidence and her athletic abilities and now is one of our Junior Student Athletes. Jimena has shown she is determined to work hard and shows up three times a week for class. When summer was approaching she asked if she could attend the Student Athlete Camp. In order to do so she needed to work hard over the month of May to be ready to move up and be part of the older age group. Jimena did just that and showed determination to advance her skills all around. She is always eager to see what the workout is going to be and you will never hear her complain. Jimena has been a great asset to our Advanced Kids program. We can’t wait to see how the Student Athlete Camp impacts her over the next two months. Below are her responses to the questions we ask our Spotlight Athletes.

What brought you to CrossFit?

I was referred by a friend of my mother who said Fury had a great workout place for kids my age. All the coaches are amazing with kids that are beginners to CrossFit. I needed a place to teach me how to properly exercise and found that at Fury.

“I saw an improvement not only in my workouts but in my confidence level as well.”

What has impacted you the most during your time at Fury?

At the beginning I was intimidated. I remember my first day walking inside and I did not have the confidence in myself when I was told to do the rope climb, ring rows, pull-ups, and burpees. Inside I was like there is no possible way I can do this. I kept attending three times a week, not giving up and willing to put all my effort into it. I saw an improvement not only in my workouts but in my confidence level as well. Peter always told me that it was all in my head and to just get in the mindset of “just do it and give it a try.” I did not enjoy exercise before but now I really have fun and understand how important it is for my health. CrossFit Fury makes it fun.

Any other comments you want to share with current or potential members?

I really recommend the CrossFit Advanced Kids program for kids my age. I am very thankful CrossFit Fury has such an amazing program for us students and I am proud to be a part of the Bomb Squad.

Congratulations, Jimena, on all of your hard work paying off! Keep up the effort!
