Congratulations to our Spotlight Athlete of the Month Amy Manke! Amy has been a member with Fury just shy of five months and has already seen huge improvements. Besides gaining strength and confidence in herself, she has lost “25lbs, 2 sizes, and multiple inches.” At 42 years old she was really looking for a “quick fix” to make up for the years of neglect when it came to health and fitness. After a friend wouldn’t stop talking about CrossFit, she decided to give it a try and liked it so much decided to become a member and join the 5am crew. By committing to the 5am class she wasn’t able to come up with reasons why she couldn’t make it to class. Not only has Amy made changes in her fitness but also her diet and sleep habits. She now makes smarter choices when it comes to meals since she is aware of the work it takes to burn off those unneeded calories. Amy says her energy level has increased, she credits sleeping better and going to bed at a consistent time to get up at 4am. Here are some questions we asked Amy regarding her time at Fury.
What brought you to CrossFit?
I was feeling old and out of shape and was looking for the “quick fix” to undo 10 years of not doing anything. My friend Brian has been coming for about 2 years and wouldn’t shut up about it and kind of dared me to come to the free Saturday class. I signed up that day and have not looked back but learned very quickly that it was not a “quick fix” at all.
What has impacted you the most during your time at Fury?
The changes I have gone through. I have lost 25lbs, 2 sizes, and multiple inches, but I have gained so much more. I am amazed I can do the workouts! I am stronger than I have ever been, I eat better (because I know how hard it is to burn calories on the assault bike!), I sleep better (and go to sleep earlier because 4am comes very early!), and I have way more energy. I have made Basics class and yoga a part of my schedule and it is non-negotiable. That’s why I go at 5am! Nothing conflicts, ever! Kelly is great at encouraging and does not let you get away with anything. She is always reminding me to go lower, go faster, and go heavier. Now the cool part is that my 8 year old son wants to do CrossFit too, so he can be strong like Mommy!
Any other comments you want to share with current or potential members?
I love CrossFit Fury because of the culture. Nobody is judging you, they are doing their own workout. Kelly explains everything so that you can do it right. They want you to do the exercises properly and efficiently. They encourage you. It’s a family that believes in tough love. I love the family events and the extra stuff that the gym does. I also encourage everyone to try out the yoga! Lacey is amazing and you will feel so good afterwards!
Keep up the great work Amy! We are all so proud of how far you have come in such a short time.
