Here at Fury we are excited to congratulate 55 year old Shannon Newcomb for being nominated and awarded the Spotlight Athlete of the Month award for June. We first saw Shannon come to Fury a year ago when he was looking to take his workouts to the next level. He had driven by our facility on Bullard for two years telling himself he was going to check it out and after some convincing by a friend gave us a shot. Since joining us he has not only participated in classes but also the CrossFit Open. This past Open he pushed hard and was a top contender in his age group after 16.1. The double unders may have kept him from doing just as well in 16.2, however it helped light a fire and gave Shannon something to work even harder on.
We asked Shannon some questions regarding his time with Fury and these were his responses.
What brought you to CrossFit?
I wanted to take my current weightlifting workouts to a higher level. In my previous workout routine I used a treadmill and lifted weights. I would get comments about how in shape I was. Once I started coming to CrossFit I saw improvement in my fitness all around. It is more of a full body workout.
What has impacted you the most during your time at Fury?
The biggest impact has been the motivation and inspiration that the instructors have provided.
What would you like to share with potential and current members?
I feel the most in shape here than I ever did doing the typical gym with a treadmill and weight lifting. It really is a total body workout.
Congratulations Shannon on all your hard work! We are proud to call you a member of Fury!
