IMS Marathon Champions

This past weekend CrossFit Fury proved that you do not need to log endless miles and hours on the road to be competent or even competitive runners! In a total we had more then a dozen members take on the IMS from the 5k to full Marathon all of whom made personal records with their times in their respective races. Most thrilling of the entire weekend was the performance of our Marathon Relay team who placed first overall with a 12+ minute lead on second place! Lets take a minute and check out the stats of these “runners” of ours…

At the end of the race our average mile split was a 7:08 for the entire 26 miles! Now this is coming from a team who’s average weight is 197lbs (only one guy is under 200lbs) the average deadlift for these four fellas is 431lbs and all of them can do at least 30 pullups in one set with the average of the team be 39 reps! Best average of all… over the past two months we have averaged less then 2 miles a week hitting the pavement! The beauty of this program is that more progress is made by focusing on our areas of weakness better then simply increasing volume and training in one area of focus. Additionally the emphasis we place on running mechanics help keep these big guys efficient and effective with their strides.

Congratulations to all of our runners and there will be plenty more opportunities for us to showcase our skills in the next few weeks and months! Finally we must remember all of the hard work that goes into an event such as this, especially one that is in five different cities! A huge THANK YOU to the IMS organization and Debra Undhjem pushing the Bomb Squad to register for something that is well outside of our comfort zone… until next year!
