WORCS is an off road racing series that combines Desert and Motocross racing into one GP race. The 2013 series consists of 9 races traveling between Arizona, Northern and Southern California, Nevada and Utah. Each race weekend consists of three days of riding with practice occurring on Friday and racing on both Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday starts with a thirty minute unclassified race which allows the racers to see the full race course for the first time, essentially a practice session. Following the unclassified each racer competes in a grueling fifty minute race. For Chandler and Bryce the Saturday race is qualifying for the big race of the weekend; the Pro/ProAm race held midday on Sunday. The Sunday ProAM race is a true test of skill, physical fitness and mental fortitude; a one hour and forty-five minute race against the top racers qualifying for the weekend.
The varying degree of physical demands, speed, coordination, endurance, strength and mental focus required of each racer makes CrossFit an optimal training choice for off road racers. The skills learned in CrossFit helps with body control and transfers over into improved riding technique. The strength increase helps with bike control and the improved endurance is a must for these long races. The weekends are long, the racing is physically demanding and mental focus and clarity is a must.
Each racer has noted significant improvement in their riding using CrossFit as their training protocol and has been training hard at Fury in preparation for the upcoming season. This upcoming weekend is an exciting weekend, with the opening round of the series occuring locally at Canyon Motocross in Peoria. CrossFit Fury wishes good luck to all the racers as they start their 2013 season.
