October Spotlight Athlete of the Month: Michelle Olver

Michelle is always smiling-even during her lifts!

So if you don’t know her, you should. Michelle Olver is probably one of our hardest working (and nicest ) CrossFitters in the gym and she makes some mean Paleo treats. And all her hard work has paid off. She is our Spotlight Athlete of the Month! I still remember watching Michelle’s first assessment and I have to admit, I thought to myself-We will never see her again. She hated every minute of the workout and gave her husband death eyes the whole way through it.

But I was wrong-very wrong. Michelle loved it and has been a member for almost 2 years now. She has “drank the juice” so to speak and has flipped her life upside down. She eats paleo, she workouts 5 days a week, sometimes two workouts a day and she has committed not only herself but her family to a healthier lifestyle and we couldn’t be prouder of her. Check out her story.

When Did you start CrossFit:
February 7, 2011

Why Did you start CrossFit:
Per doctors orders I was not able to do any kind exercise, not even walking. My body was so out of whack that my standing heart rate was above 100. I was put on a ton of meds, saw numerous doctors, to make a long story short….I told myself when I was well and able to exercise again, I was going to start something and never stop! The day my cardiologist released me was the day I started Crossfit, 2/7/2011. This date will always be so momentous for me! Eric found Fury…thank goodness for him!

What kept you coming back/motivated:
Results, progression, body changes and the confidence is awesome! PR’s keep me coming back for more, getting stronger keeps me motivated and I can’t get enough of the Fury Family!

How long did it take you to go from Basics to CrossFit Prep:
I believe I started Prep in May/2011, if my memory is correct.

What is the best thing you have gotten out of doing CrossFit:
There are so many rewards that have come along since I have been Crossfitting, but the most important aspect has to be my excellent health, blood work doesn’t lie.

What is the one thing you have done here that you never thought you could do?
A pull-up, and I still struggle with them.

What is one goal you have reached? And one goal you still hope to reach?
Multiple double unders, 39 to be exact. BIG goal: 2013 will be the year of the muscle-up, that will be epic!

Michelle is a committed CrossFitter, making Saturday partner workouts every week!

How has your diet changed since starting CrossFit?
My eating habits have changed drastically, instead of eating milk chocolate, I eat dark chocolate…haha! I have learned that the paleo lifestyle is one that works for me, the best way to describe paleo is it makes me feel electric!

How has the paleo diet affected your workouts/life?
Paleo treats me very well and has made a huge impact on my overall health. With Paleo, my stamina, endurance levels are high and my strength has increased. My cholesterol/triglyceride levels are where they should be. When I am in full Paleo mode, I have a ton of energy, my mind is clear and I don’t have sugar crashes. I also feel the recovery time is minimal with Paleo. I am 100% sure diet and exercise have helped me overcome all my health ailments.
